Calypso Rose

Calypso Rose, born Linda McCartha Monica Sandy-Lewis in 1940 in Bethel, Tobago, is a pivotal figure in calypso music, having written over 1,000 songs and released more than 20 albums. Known for her socially conscious lyrics that tackle issues like racism and sexism, she became the first female calypsonian, shifting the landscape of the genre. Notable tracks such as 'Calypso Blues' and 'Soca Diva' highlight her influence and pioneering spirit in a male-dominated field. She has received numerous accolades and continues to inspire generations while residing in New York and maintaining strong ties to her homeland.
