Don't Box Yourself In
Interview with Bilix by Ali All

BILIX
“NOT LOCKING YOURSELF IN IS THE KEY”
Franck Offranc, a Guadeloupean songwriter and composer, is better known as BILIX. He began to take a real interest in music at the age of 12 with the “brothers” from his neighborhood, who were already making music and helped him come into his own. Back then, he wore glasses and was very shy. Music helped him overcome his insecurities.
HIS INFLUENCES
How would you describe your music?
“My music is unclassifiable.” :-)
More seriously, I wouldn’t have the audacity to say that I take the audience into a trance; that’s a strong statement. There’s definitely a danceable aspect, but everyone is free to feel what they perceive in what I share. I want to remain authentic, and from there, everything goes! (laughs).

I listen to everything. I have a fondness for Gwo Ka, reggae, zouk, and recently soca. My influences are therefore diverse.
“Not locking yourself in is the key.”

HIT LOKAL AWARDS
WINNER OF HIT LOKAL AWARDS / SOCA BOUYON \
You have been awarded twice at the “HIT LOKAL AWARD.” What does that mean to you?
“I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supports me. Without an audience, there are no artists.
These awards represent a certain level of success, the culmination of hard work.”
INSPIRATION
I would have loved to collaborate with Bob Marley, an icon of music. I have deep respect for his journey. He managed to popularize reggae music regardless of your social status or skin color; it’s impressive! I also greatly appreciate the work of Erykah Badu.

Erykah Badu & Bob Marley
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
“The subjects are quite eclectic; inspiration comes from both my personal experiences and things I witness in everyday life.”
RENDEZ-VOUS
Your track “RENDEZ-VOUS” invites your audience into a different universe than what they know. Can you tell us about it?
…sweeter, more sensual…
With RENDEZ-VOUS, I wanted to showcase another side of myself musically, one that is sweeter and more sensual. I don’t only create dance tracks.
THE BEST IS YET TO COME!
If you had to take stock of this musical year, what would you say?
The assessment: Great memories, tons of experiences that definitely enrich me. My meeting with “Joboy”, an artistic agent and music promoter, all in good spirits!
