Interview with Nikki Brooks
“We Are All One Caribbean People”

Nikki Brooks
“ I’M FROM ALL OVER ”
I was born on St. Croix, U.S.V.I. and grew up on St. Thomas but my roots are also from Anguilla where my Grandfather on my Father’s side is from. My Mother is from Puerto Rico so I’m from all over.
WE ARE ALL
ONE CARIBBEAN PEOPLE
We should all support each other and prosper together as one.
I don’t like being put in a box.
A lot of people when they hear Soca music automatically assume that it comes from specific islands known for being a mecca of the genre and artists.
The truth is that we are all one Caribbean people and the genre is infused in all of our beautiful islands.
I want the world to know that not only is Soca music alive and well…but there is overwhelming talent of Soca music from artists such as myself in places like U.S.V.I and Anguilla
SOCA IS SWEET AND THRIVING
IN THE U.S.V.I & ANGUILLA
PLAY ME LIKE PAN
I wanted to pay homage to my love for pan and put my own twist on the lyrics and video. In the past we have had many Pan songs, but never like this. I took the love of pan to a different level, by wanting to be played like the instrument.
Pan is undeniably a beautiful instrument with an enticing sound that we Caribbean women and women in general all over the world love.

When you look at pan players you see their passion for the instrument. As a woman we are passionate and I for one would love my man to “Play Me like Pan”.
The video was shot in Anguilla and this was only fitting to bring the first video off the album to life being that I recorded and produced the entire album on Anguilla.
ST CROIX’S 1st EVER FEMALE
CALYPSO MONARCH
The genre is still a very male dominated field. Winning this title not only empowered me to continue pursuing my dreams but it most importantly empowered young women.
I consider it one of the highlights of my singing career.
I take great pride in feeling that I contributed to breaking the glass ceiling for other young women to compete and follow their aspirations whatever they were.
HER INFLUENCES
My idols are Aretha Franklin, Patsy Cline, Diana Ross and Soca legend Singing Sandra.
Music is my passion. I’ve been singing from age seven and I’m a lover of all genres of music including Country, Soul, R&B, Gospel and of course Soca and Calypso
“ THIS IS TIME! ”
G_od is good! It is only by his grace that I’ve come this far…and yes! This is my time! I want to share my talent and music with the world. The response to the ‘Play Me Like Pan” video and album has been overwhelming. I’m humbled and grateful._
I recently opened up the St. Thomas 2016 Carnival Village on April 22nd with Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann. I’ll be heading to NY within the upcoming weeks for a press week and album listening event in addition to shooting the music video for the next single and title track off the album “Know Me Now”.
Nikki Brooks — Know Me Now
The tracks on my current album “Know Me Now” are all my concepts. I also collaborated with amazing St. Thomas and Anguilla based writers The Seventh Wing, Muggsy, Shamplus and Kerwyn ‘Prick’ Goddard. The entire album was produced in Anguilla by Cherrod Lewis
